Wrapped Up in You by Erin Bevan

Nothing like a little romance at the North Pole to get you in the holiday spirit!

What’s it About?

Princess Jenny Claus has thirty suitors to choose from to take on the role of Santa and her husband, and only three weeks to do it. When an outsider crashes into and destroys the toy factory, her Gala and the prospect of Christmas for children everywhere are ruined.

Logan Moss awakens from his plane crash, suffering from partial amnesia. Surrounded by a world he always considered make believe, he has a hard time accepting his new surroundings. Except for one snow princess who he’s deeply fascinated with. And when Logan realizes she only has three weeks to pick a husband, he begins to feel compelled to be that man. Problem is, he can’t remember if he has a wife. With Christmas getting closer, Jenny has to make the hardest decision of her life…duty or love.

First Impressions

Before reading this novel, all I had to go on in considering the possible content was the title, and the cover. No synopsis to speak of was available at the time! I figured I’d be dealing with some kind of light-hearted romance à la Hallmark channel. Well, you can imagine my utter surprise when I cracked open the cover of my Kindle to discover we were dealing with a romance between Santa Claus’s daughter and a pilot who crash landed in the North Pole. To say I was surprised is the understatement of the entire holiday season! We’ve got a competition for who will be Head Elf, a magical peppermint potion, Dasher’s sassy reindeer wife Marcy, and just a tad of amnesia thrown into the mix. I gotta say though, I absolutely fell in love with this story!

A Magical Christmas Romance

I love a good Christmas romance, and this one is about as magical and cheesy as you can get. I mean, we’re in the North Pole for crying out loud! I think it’s important to go into this novel with as carefree and as open a mind as possible. After all, it is the holidays. Try to just relax, have some fun, and not worry about taking things too seriously!

In hindsight I’m absolutely thrilled I hadn’t read the synopsis beforehand, as I went in with zero expectations, and just let the story take me where it wanted to go. Yes, it’s a pretty silly premise, but underneath all the holiday cookies and sprinkles it’s actually a very sweet read that will make your cheeks rosy, and your toes curl in delight. I felt the ending did lay on the X-mas magic a bit too thick, but overall it’s a unique holiday romance unlike any other.

Some Drama Mixed with the Magic

It’s clear pretty early on that Jenny and Logan have chemistry, but his inability to remember the details of his life (specifically whether or not he has a wife and children back home) prevent them from taking things too far in the romantic sense. Their hesitancy surrounding the mystery of Logan’s past creates just the right amount of fabulous tension to the story. It provided an interesting mix of drama and romance that I simply wasn’t expecting, but ultimately really enjoyed. There’s also the slight mishap over the fact that Logan’s plane crash-landed into the toy factory one month before Christmas, and Princess Jenny must choose a husband who will become the new Santa in that same amount of time. Things are extra busy at the North Pole this year!

Series: One and done

Should you read it? I was drawn into this story right from the get-go, and thought it was a fun and unique read. I understand it might not be for everyone, and you kind of have to prepare yourself for some silliness. That being said, beneath the tinsel and ice sculptures lies a tale about love at first sight, family, honor and the delights of Christmas magic.

Smut Level: No sex I’m afraid, but that doesn’t mean these two don’t get up to some crazy antics in the toy storeroom.

Snow Angel Cove by RaeAnne Thayne

Oh well if that doesn’t have all the magical wonderfulness of a Hallmark Christmas special I just don’t know what does.

What’s it About?

snow angel

Nothing short of a miracle can restore Eliza Hayward’s Christmas cheer. The job she pinned her dreams on has gone up in smoke—literally—and now she’s stuck in an unfamiliar, if breathtaking, small town. Precariously close to being destitute, Eliza needs a hero, but she’s not expecting one who almost runs her down with his car!

Rescuing Eliza is pure instinct for tech genius Aidan Caine. At first, putting the renovation of his lakeside guest lodge in Eliza’s hands assuages his guilt—until he sees how quickly he could fall for her. Having focused solely on his business for years, he never knew what his life was missing before Eliza, but now he’s willing to risk his heart on a yuletide romance that could lead to forever.

First Impressions

If you ever have the occasion to read this book you must do so during the month of December, with a cup of hot cocoa in your hand, and an apple cinammon candle burning somewhere in your vicinity. Not gonna lie, the fact that I listened to this book a few months ago during a road trip in Florida sort of took away from the magic of the story. And what a magical story it was, filled with all the warm and fuzzies for your holiday cheer. Was it a bit cheesy and unbelievable? Of course! But isn’t that sort of a requirement for holiday romances?

An Interesting Start

Eliza hasn’t had the best welcome to town. The Inn where she was supposed to work burned down, leaving her with no job, and shortly thereafter she is hit by a car. Talk about a rough couple of hours! But alas, there is always a silver lining to even the most seemingly unfortunate of circumstances. The man who hit her with his car, Aidan, is a local geeky millionaire Adonis who offers her a housekeeping position in his home in preparation for his large family visiting him during the holidays.

The beginning of the novel is very interesting, as Eliza must make important decisions for both her and her daughter after so many calamities befall them so quickly. The end is also very sweet and charming when Aidan’s family finally arrives for the holidays. Unfortunately there’s a rather large part in the middle that kind of drags.

So Much to Think About

Eliza and Aidan both have their secrets, as well as special moments of sharing them with each other. However, I felt like the majority of the book was spent with them thinking about each other rather than actually spending any alone time together. They also spend time thinking about other things going on in their lives, and what has already happened in the past, that you sort of have to remind yourself that a romance is supposed to be blossoming between them.

Series: Haven Point, book 1.

Should you read it? The best part of the book was Eliza’s daughter, Maddie, and the narrator of the audiobook did a great job making her childish enthusiasm shine through to the point where you couldn’t help but smile. The romance side of the story could use some work, but it’s a sweet book to read during the holidays.

Smut Level: Considering Eliza and Aidan are barely alone together, the most we see are a few kisses.

The Christmas Bridge by Elyse Douglas

You know, based on the snowy, idyllic scene and hugging lovers on the cover I figured this book would be like a cheesy Hallmark Christmas special. Sadly, it was more along the lines of a depressing Lifetime movie.

What’s it About?

A First Love. A Second Chance. A young widow travels to New York on business a few days before Christmas. She has reluctantly made a date with a lover she hasn’t seen in 20 years, and she is nervous and apprehensive. Twenty years before, she made a difficult decision that has both troubled and haunted her ever since. She knows she’s about to come face-to-face with her past and she’s hoping for some redemption and resolution. She also wonders if she can somehow pick up where she left off 20 years ago and start again.

An exciting chance encounter changes everything. Now, not only will she face the past with hope to rekindle an old romance, but there is the possibility that this chance meeting will bring her love and happiness she never thought possible. Once again, she will have to choose. She will have to make the right decision. She will have to believe that Christmas miracles can still happen.

First Impressions

Yeah, I know, I judged the book by its cover! But can you really blame me? Just look at that thing! However, I couldn’t believe how heavy the eventual subject matter was for a novel set around Christmas time. The entire book focuses on the moment, or in this case moments, when you are presented with two different paths in life, and you can only choose one to travel down. Will you be making a huge mistake so that you live the rest of your life in regret, or will all of your dreams come true? It’s not the most awful or depressing book I’ve ever come across, but it just didn’t create that warm and fuzzy feeling I was expecting.

Decisions, Decisions

So back in the day Olivia had a whirlwind affair in New York with a man named Andrew, but she left him to marry someone else and start a family. Fast-forward 20 years, her husband is dead, and she’s now wondering about the one that got away. Did she make a mistake all those years ago leaving Andrew behind? Did she ever really love her husband Carl? Was her daughter conceived in guilt? Gah! Too many intense questions for the holidays.

Olivia decides to reach out to Andrew and see if she can finally find answers to all these questions. She travels to New York to meet him, and while waiting on her favorite Christmas bridge she meets another man named Brett who falls in love with and proposes to her in the span of 2 days. No exaggeration there. Literally 2 days! Now Olivia is faced with yet another life-altering decision. Should she rekindle her long-remembered romance with Andrew, or embark on something new with the free-spirited Brett? F*ck me, I can’t handle this much drama around Christmas!!

Series: Nope. I can’t even imagine how much more drama could be created for a sequel.

Should you read it? Believe it or not, this book actually ends on a high note! Still not exactly the kind of thing I want to cozy up with in front of a fireplace, but if you like a high amount of drama mixed in with your Christmas miracles, then by all means grab a cup of hot cocoa and have at it!

Smut Level: Olivia and one of the numerous men presented in this book manage to go at it like rabbits,  although it isn’t too descriptive.
