That One Moment by Amy Daws

I think the author, Amy Daws, describes this book better than anyone. In an e-mail she sent to me and some fellow bloggers, she stated that, “It’s so…sigh.” Truer words were never spoken!

What’s it About?

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00009]

Life is a series of reoccurring ripples in time.
The moment I saw her…something shifted.
The moment my lips touched hers…life got messy.
The moment my heart got involved…everything changed.

Vi Harris tests every bit of my strength.
She is my test.
My challenge.
At a time when I should be focusing entirely on myself, this radiant woman with a bright, cheeky smile and a cracked sense of humor waltzes in and spins everything on its axis.

Vi has the potential to make me weak at a time when I’m determined to show everyone just how bloody strong I am.
She’s everything I am not…yet somehow, she sees through my darkness.
My pain.
My despair.
She doesn’t see me as broken.
She sees me as the man I’m fighting so hard to be.
The man that I’m still struggling to see myself.

I feel like if there was ever a fictional character in desperate need of one of my hugs, it would be Hayden. It’s been one year since that one moment: when Hayden attempted to kill himself. He’s now sober, and believes he’s turned his life around. However, his therapist gives him a challenge (sort of becoming a theme in this series) to tell one stranger his whole story. Enter Vi.

When Hayden and Vi first interact…OMG love it! There’s a spark between them. An intense heat which Hayden doesn’t want to admit he feels, so he gets broody and angry until he can’t stand it anymore! This tends to result in the two of them pushed up against a wall for a delicious make out session.

5, 4, 3, 2…1

Yes, there is amazing chemistry between Hayden and Vi. Yes, there are amazing sex scenes. Yes, I wish I could eat ice cream out of the divots of Hayden’s abs. But the true brilliance of this novel was in the countdown.

add744fe-2787-4f26-9f44-176596b7518e

Hayden shares with Vi the last 5 days leading up to his suicide attempt. It was overwhelming to read this tragic and heartbreaking lead-up, showing how such a seemingly strong character had once given up on life, and tried to end his pain. Hayden is shocked that instead of pushing her away, his countdown actually brings the two of them closer together.

The Moments

quote

Throughout this novel, we see how life is full of life-changing moments; some good, some heart-wrenchingly terrible. However, in order to truly live life, one must focus instead on those good moments that take your breath away. They are the ones that help you get through the difficult ones.

For Hayden, the last four years of his life since his sister’s untimely death have only been filled with bad moments. One after the other. A build-up which eventually became too much for him to bear, so he tried to leave this world altogether. Since Vi entered his life though, he’s finally started seeing the good moments again. Because of her, he’s finally started living again.

Series: Lost in London, book 2. You should definitely read these books in order, starting with the London Lovers series. They’re all amazing!

Should you read it? In my opinion, this was definitely one of the best of the entire London Lovers/Lost in London series. It covers some intense subjects, but there’s also a decent amount of humor woven in as well. From Vi’s over-protective footballer brothers, to her ball-sniffing dog Bruce. Oh, and did I mention it’s sexy as hell?!

Smut Level: These two exude passion and chemistry. Just gotta love the amount of biting kisses, groping, thrusting and spankings going on in this book. It’s so…sigh!

Q: Talk to me about your cover! Who designed it?

A: I did! I do all my own covers actually. And the photographer is my sister-in-law. And the models are just some people we know! Neither are professional models and that is one of my most favorite things about all of my covers. I joke because the guy on the cover is my best friend’s brother and she loves my books. I was afraid putting him on the cover would lose me a fan! LOL. But she says she’s still 100% reading it and just planning to visualize her own Hayden and most certainly not her brother! HA!

Q: Who is Hayden?
A: Hayden Clarke…sigh. I think I fell in love with him more than I thought possible during the process of writing this book. Hayden was sort of the broken anti-hero of my last release, Not The One. And he’s by far my most requested book to date. The hype for his story has been intense. Readers need his HEA and I seriously can barely speak of the story to them without squealing. He’s wormed his way into my heart and I hope I did this magnificent man justice or my readers will have my hide!

Q: What can you tell us about That One Moment?
A: Well, the story starts exactly one year after a pretty intense day for Hayden in Not The One, so I really dig where he’s at mentally throughout the whole book. He’s still dealing with a lot of what he went through, but you get glimpses of some normalcy for him, so you get to know the TRUE Hayden…who is hot…and a bit of a freak between the sheets! ☺

Q: Is it a sexy romance?
A: Yes, but it’s a slow burn, which is different for me…but it had to be for Hayden. He needs to take his time and not rush into anything or it wouldn’t be believe or smart.

Q: Okay, be honest…you’re known for feeding on the tears of your readers. How many boxes of tissues should they have on hand?
A: A lot. LOL. I mean…I don’t know how they expect me to write Hayden’s story without some emotion. But I think they’ll be surprised at how much they smile too. Hayden isn’t all dark and gloomy. He’s sexy and funny and all man. This won’t just be a cry-fest. I promise!

Q: Can That One Moment be read as a standalone?
A: Yes! I’m happy to tell you, yes. It has been tested and approved. There’s no cliffy. It’s solid on it’s own. Though I do think readers will enjoy it more if they read Not The One first. And Not The One is officially book 1 in my Lost in London Series with That One Moment being book 2. If they really want more backstory on some secondary characters, they should check out my London Lovers Series too. I love my little London family over there!

Q: What’s next?
A: More books! I have some secret projects I’m working on. One is another series entirely and another is the third book to the Lost in London Series that I can’t tell you about yet! ☺

Q: Is it Frank? It has to be the fantastic gay ginger’s turn for a story, right?
A: It’s not Frank…not yet. I’m not closing the door on that bloke, but he’s gotta be patient. Saving the best for last!

Q: Why oh why are you releasing one week early on iBooks and torturing all of us Kindle readers?
A: LOL! I’m sorry! I have a great iBooks family over there and they are wonderful to work with. I will have preorder links for all retailers up soon though, I promise.

Q: Okay fine…I’ll just be patient then. Thanks for stopping by.
A: Thanks for having me!!!

Amy Daws – That One Moment Reveal

Not the One by Amy Daws

I first fell in love with Liam back in the first novel of the London Lovers series. I couldn’t wait for his own story, and thought he was so darn sweet. Which he is, but damn does he have a naughty side!

What’s it About?

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00008]

My name is Reyna Miracle. Even though a part of my name is Miracle, there’s nothing miraculous about me. My body portrays the tales of my life. Every feeling, every heartbreak, every emotion. Marked. Inked. Stained. A walking canvas of my messed up truth. But there’s one confession I can’t put in a tattoo. A confession that will kill me to tell, but my best friend died before I had the chance.

Now I’m left with him. The only one who can hold me in the night and squeeze that spot on my neck that feels like my lifeline between sanity and chaos. But we don’t work together. We’re absolute poison for each other. We’re a stifling, suffocating, sickness of darkness. But I feel safe…because I’ve made an art of pushing people away. Now he’s pushing back…And making me believe…Making me wonder…Maybe, just maybe…I could be the one.

First Impressions

Emotions often run high in an Amy Daws novel, and this book is no exception. There are definitely some dark aspects to the story, from an unplanned affair to a suicide attempt. That being said, there are also some remarkably sexy and sweet moments between Reyna and Liam. And of course, you can’t forget the lovable and laughable antics of dear Frank. Oh, and can we take a moment to drool over how awesome the cover art is? Alright, I think I’m good. Wait…no I’m gonna need a few more minutes to just stare and admire the beauty.

tangled

An Affair By Any Other Name

Reyna was friends with Liam back in college, as he was dating her best friend and roommate, Marisa. There was always a deep connection between Liam and Reyna that neither could explain or ignore, and one night they do the unthinkable and sleep together while Marisa is away on holiday. Reyna is flooded with immediate guilt, and has every intention of confessing to Marisa right away what happened. Unfortunately, the very next day Marisa dies in a terrible accident, and Reyna never has the chance to say she’s sorry. Needless to say, this creates some negative and long lasting affects.

guilt

The whole aspect of the affair was pretty unsettling, especially seeing as my boy Liam was involved! Not only that, but Liam sort of used his relationship with Marisa to get a rise out of Reyna so she would admit to having feelings for him. Marisa appears to both Liam and Reyna in their dreams basically giving their relationship her stamp of approval, but I kind of question if that would have been true had she been alive. Definitely gives you some things to think about!

Bizarre Dreamland

Throughout the novel, Reyna’s dreams have a very important role to play in the overall story. Not only does she often receive messages from Marisa in her dreams, but she also has a connection with her three sisters who died shortly after their premature quadruplet birth. Reyna’s therapist actually provides a scientific reasoning for why she has memories of her sisters from the time she was a baby, but combine that with Marisa’s dreamy appearances and I felt like there was almost a paranormal aspect to the novel which was kind of different.

Series: London Lovers, book 4. I would definitely recommend you read the other books in the series first. Not only are they awesome, but it will help you better understand the emotions and motivations behind the actions of the characters.

Should you read it? It definitely deals with some heavy subject matter, including regrets and unhealthy relationships. However, it is written remarkably well, and there is an amazing romance underlying all the drama.

Smut Level: I knew there was a reason I liked Liam so much. The man is talented in the bedroom!

~Not The One is connected to the London Lovers Series but will be released as a complete standalone~

He begins to stalk slowly toward me—his tall, wiry build gliding silently across the white tile floor. I back up until I hit the half wall beside the fridge. “We said we weren’t going to do this anymore, Hayden.” I hold my hand out, pressing it to his firm stomach to stop him from coming any closer. I want to walk away, but a larger part of me wants to stop thinking about Liam. And there’s only one way to do that.

Hayden sighs and grabs a piece of my hair. He brings it to his lips. “You look sexy as fuck, Rey. I like your hair like this.” He rubs the silky, dark strand against his lips.

“Nice key change Hay. But you should take those bedroom eyes elsewhere.”

He hunches over and nuzzles his mouth into my neck, licking and kissing a trail up to my ear. “Now why would I want to do that?” he whispers, his voice husky.

Goose pimples flare out on my neck beneath his warm breath. I ball up a chunk of his T-shirt into my fist for some semblance of control. His hands move to grip tightly around my waist and I could scream at my body as it arches into his embrace.

This is exactly what Hayden does to me. He makes me lose all sense of thought and purpose. It’s part of the draw. He’s a freaking mess just like me and I ache for the pleasure I know he can grant me.

“We say a lot of words,” he mumbles against my neck. “Let’s do less saying. And more fucking.”

His words have an instant shock to all my erogenous zones. Suddenly, he shifts his head and swipes his lips against mine in a painful, biting kiss. The taste of red wine passes back and forth between our lips and tongues and my eyes roll to the back of my head as I let his assault intoxicate me.

His tall frame is at an awkward angle, so he slides his hands down my butt and lifts me up. I wrap my legs around his waist and he slams me back against the fridge. The cozy press of his hard on against my center instantly has my groin thrusting into his.

“God I fucking love your legs,” Hayden growls and nips my collar bone with his teeth as he carries me over to my rumpled mattress on the floor in my living room.

This is what Hayden and I do best. We fuck to forget. We’re a mess of dysfunctional, codependent, sex-starved garbage together. And it is hot as hell.

London Bound by Amy Daws

I did it! I managed to get through a book in this series without bursting out crying or laughing. I was gonna say I finally managed to not look like a fool in public, but that’ll never be true.

What’s it About?

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00006]When your past and present collide, can love surpass it all? When Leslie Lincoln, a spunky, red-headed American, suffers an awkward moment with an arousingly-sexy British man—she thinks her life can’t get any more pathetic. She’s done with men. She doesn’t need them. She especially doesn’t need their muscular thighs. No siree, she’s going to forget all about the brooding, complicated, and seductive “Theo” who captivated her on the dance floor of a London nightclub. Keep telling yourself that, Lez….. Immersing herself into a new type of romantic cleanse, Leslie thinks she’ll never lay eyes on Theo again. But somehow, he’s managed to bulldoze his way back in—her cheetah-print onesie pajamas be damned. He wants more. She wants to run. But he can’t seem to let her go. Both of them have a past—and neither want to share. How can love possibly survive in darkness?

First Impressions

Although I didn’t run into any instances of uncontrollable laughter or tear shedding, that doesn’t mean this book didn’t have any emotion to it. The presence of Leslie’s friend Frank guarantees numerous chuckles, and the fact that the book is in this series at all means there will be some kind of depressing aspect involved. The sad parts of this novel relate to the somber familial pasts of both Leslie and Theo, which they desperately try to keep secret from one another. At one point Leslie says it’s only a matter of time before the truth comes out. Translation: it’s only a matter of time before the shit hits the fan!

oh my godIs This One Book or Two?

I do think there could have been a better flow to both the story and style of the book. When the novel opens, Leslie is attending Finley and Brody’s wedding, and we’re provided with a lot of flashbacks, as well as some behind the scenes descriptions as to what really went down between Leslie and Theo in book 2, A Broken Us. Frank then insists that Leslie partake in his 7 day romance cleanse, and hilarity ensues with speed dating, stringing along two guys simultaneously, and culminating with a one-night stand. There is also a lovely amount of sexual tension involved as Theo constantly pursues Leslie throughout the whole cleanse, and once he finally gets her in his bed it is oh so sexy.

That’s the first half. Once Leslie gives herself over to Theo though the tone for the rest of the novel takes a dramatic turn for, well, the dramatic. It almost seems like you’re reading an entirely different book. Gone are Frank’s crazy antics, and instead they are replaced with dark secrets and hidden pasts. Don’t get me wrong, it was definitely interesting trying to figure out exactly what happened to Theo and Leslie, and there are some curveballs thrown in to keep you on your toes. However, I think this sudden change from fun and giggles to such an intense amount of drama was almost too much to handle at once.

My Favorite Bits

Frank, Frank, Frank, Frank, FRANK!! Hilarious doesn’t even begin to describe this man, and in my opinion he is worthy of his own full-length novel, or at least a novella. Every time I cracked a smile, or emitted a tee hee in this book, Frank was undoubtedly involved. I think it was his almost complete absence from the second half of the novel that made it seem even more depressing. He’s crazy fun, and I can think of no better companion for a night out on the town.

The support group of friends is really what makes all of the books in this series shine. The same characters are present throughout, and by this third book you can recognize and understand all their varying quirks and personality traits. I’m not gonna lie though, the sexy beau-hunks are also a plus. I mean, the number of times Leslie was transfixed by Theo’s passionate gaze through his black-rimmed glasses…oh my. He can be my Superman any damn day of the week!

Series: London Lovers, book 3

Should you read it? The latter-half is a bit of a downer, but you just gotta love the network of friends. Sometimes their interactions are more enthralling than those of the two main lovebirds.

Smut Level: There are a few moments in this book where you’ll have to fan yourself, but overall you won’t be left feeling too scandalized. It will make you think twice though about getting it on in your boyfriend’s childhood home.

Becoming Us by Amy Daws

How is it that every single time I read a book in this series I’m on an airplane, and end up looking like a fool? When I read A Broken Us I cried ugly tears, and with this book I was grinning and laughing out loud. I mean, how am I not supposed to giggle when someone is referred to as a snuggle snatcher? How I ask ya?!

What’s it About?

London Bound Becoming Us

The dreaded friend-zone… The last place I ever want to be with college basketball God, Jake LaShae. I am losing my mind trying to figure out what this gorgeous and confident man wants from me. I need to break through his walls. What is it about me that makes him not go there? What am I lacking? When a mind-blowing betrayal knocks the wind out of me, and I think I can’t feel any lower…Brody stumbles into my path-barefoot no less, and sexy as hell. His direct and mouth-watering swagger is a breath of fresh air. The feelings this man gives me are like nothing I’ve ever experienced. But Brody has a past. A past that makes it nearly impossible for him to trust me and let us become us in whatever capacity that may be. Just when Brody and I truly connect, just when I think that finding my soul-mate in college isn’t a total joke, Jake comes back into my life…and messes things up…possibly for good.

First Impressions

This book takes us back to the beginning to see how Brody and Finley first met. It was definitely funnier, and a whole hell of a lot sexier than book 2, and that’s saying something. I mean my God! The sex scenes between Brody and Finley were so passionate and full of longing, it really showed that for them sex was so much more than physical pleasure. For these two it was all about the love. I gotta say though, Finley is a lucky girl that I wasn’t on that college campus too because we would have had some cat fights with massive amounts of hair pulling so that I could get Brody for myself. This man was freakin’ perfection, and so adorably romantic I practically swooned in my airline seat. Meh, I’ll just say it was due to a sudden change in altitude.

swoonWhat College Did I Go To?

Before Brody makes his not so graceful appearance into the novel, Finley has a total crush on star basketball player Jake. His behavior towards Finley is really confusing, going from suggestive one minute to “just friends” the next. When she catches him in bed with someone else, word spreads quickly over campus about Jake’s douche-holery, and Finley tries to move on to bigger and better things, aka Brody’s nether region. This made me realize that romance novels set in college have more gossip, drama and backstabbing than an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Now, did I just go to an oddly prudish school, or does tomfoolery like this really happen on college campuses? Not only did I have absolutely no clue as to the extracurricular sexual activities of the basketball stud muffin, I didn’t even know his name.

Oh…my…gooseberries!

pinned-wallI’ve already mentioned how the lovin’ between Brody and Finley was full of passionate feelings, but there was also a decent amount of angry sex in this book as well. It was just so wonderfully fabulous. Brody definitely knew how to hold her up against a wall, and there were quite a few instances of legs being wrapped around hips if you know what I mean. Phew, where’s that drink cart when you need it?! There was this one scene in particular where Brody ripped her tights to get at her, which is an OMG level of sexy. But then Finley mentions how happy she is that she doesn’t wear underwear with tights, and that sort of ruined the moment for me. Who the hell doesn’t wear underwear with tights? Ladies? Am I alone in thinking that just sounds like an uncomfortable way to spend your evening?

What’s Next?

This book ended on such an awww moment I couldn’t help but grin like an idiot. But then the epilogue came around which lead directly into how book 2 starts with Finley discovering she can’t have children, and deciding to end her relationship with Brody. Well, all the happy feelings I got from that awww moment were just washed away. Now I’ve already read book 2, but if I hadn’t this epilogue definitely would have spurred me on to read it as soon as possible. To read my review of A Broken Us, just click here, and be sure to check back in on Wednesday when I review the third book in the London Lovers series, London Bound.
